Durham Music is thrilled to announce that the Young Musician of the Year competition is back again on Sunday 23th June 2024 

It’s open to all musicians of approximately Grade 6 standard and above, who receive lessons from Durham Music Service. (You do not have to have passed an external exam to take part). Every style of music is welcome - so whether you sing, play a mean lead guitar, or play a brass, woodwind or string instrument, this competition if for you.  

Chosen finalists will be asked to perform for no longer than 10 minutes in the beautiful venue of Ushaw College. The choice of music is your own, but we suggest you choose music you love to play and shows you off to your best! You can bring your own accompanist or request one from Durham Music

Here’s some helpful tips when recording your 1st round video  

  • A phone of tablet is suitable for recording purposes 

  • Try to record your video submission in a quiet space and avoid any background noise 

  • 1st round performances do not need an accompaniment 

  • Please make sure that both you and the instrument are visible in the video 

  • All videos must be under 2 minutes long 

  • Audio only cannot be accepted 

  • Please edit your video title with your name and instrument
